Spa and salon payroll in Nepal is usually a base salary, minus deductions for absent days, plus commission on the services each therapist completed. The calculation is reliable only when attendance and paid bookings are recorded per person, which is what payroll software uses to work out the month.

Month-end is when many spa and salon owners lose a weekend. Attendance is in one notebook, services are in the booking diary, discounts are in someone’s memory, and every therapist is sure they did more than the record shows. A disputed payslip damages trust with the people you most want to keep.

The three parts of a therapist’s pay

  • Base salary – the fixed monthly amount agreed with the therapist.
  • Absence deductions – absent days, half days and unpaid leave reduce pay by the day.
  • Commission – a rate applied to the value of the services the therapist actually completed and that were paid for.

Where the arguments come from

Disputes usually start with one of three questions: Was this booking completed? Was it paid in full? Was a discount applied, and who approved it? If bookings, payments and discounts live in different places, nobody can answer quickly. If they live in one record, the answer is a lookup. This is also why discount approval matters to payroll: a discount changes the service value that commission is calculated on.

A calculation you can explain

Write the rule down in plain words and apply it the same way to everyone:

  1. Start with the monthly salary.
  2. Subtract the day-rate for each absent day or unpaid leave, and half for half days.
  3. Add commission: the therapist’s rate multiplied by the value of their completed, paid bookings.
  4. Add any referral commission recorded against bookings.

Zennly’s payroll follows this approach each month, per branch. You review a draft run, check the numbers, then finalise it, which locks the run so figures cannot drift afterwards.

Keep branches separate

If therapists move between branches, record the transfer in advance so their bookings and attendance sit under the right branch. See staff management and transfers and the multi-branch checklist.

Control who sees pay

Payroll is sensitive. Limit it to admins, and give managers and front-desk staff only what they need. This is covered by role-based access.

Common questions

How is therapist commission calculated at a spa?

Commonly, commission is a percentage rate applied to the value of the therapist's completed and paid bookings in the month. In Zennly, service commission is the therapist's rate applied to those bookings, and referral commission is added per booking.

Can payroll be run separately for each branch?

Yes. Zennly runs payroll each month per branch.

Can a payroll run be changed after it is finalised?

No. In Zennly you review a draft run and then finalise it, which locks the numbers.

Who can see payroll in Zennly?

Payroll is limited to admins.
